Cross Sections
Cross sections are slices thru the building that contain most of the structural information including:
- Horizontal and vertical dimensions.
- Foundation dimensions and materials for footings, walls, slabs and post support. Crawl space vents and access openings, mudsill size and type, anchor bolt, rebar and hold down sizes, types and spacing. Include all earth to wood clearances (min 6" exterior,
12" girders, 18" joists)
- Size, type of lumber, and spacing for all framing members. Location of blocking, bracing, cross ties and braced wall panels.
- Roof truss description and pitch, if applicable, or rafter type, size, spacing, pitch and cross ties.
- Description of metal connectors. (joist hangers, tie downs, post caps and bases etc)
- Description of subfloor, exterior sheathing and roof
sheathing with nailing schedules if required.
- Type and R value for floor, wall and ceiling insulation. (R19, R13, R30 in Climate Zone 2)
- Interior wall sheathing or sheetrock with size, type (Green Board for shower and
tub surrounds, 5/8" Type X inside furnace and HW closets)
- Attached garage sections must show 5/8" Fire Sheetrock where required (on
walls adjoining the residence) and self closing solid doors. All outlets and HW
heaters minimum 18" above slab.
- Roofing type, underlayment, soffit and attic ventilation.
