Residential Construction Drawings

The Roof Framing Plan

Roof Framing Plans are required unless engineered trusses are used. Typically they contain:

  • Roof dimensions and pitch.
  • Size, lumber type and spacing of rafters or engineered truss pitch and spacing.
  • Wall blocking, overhangs, and soffit and attic vent dimensions.
  • Size and type of lumber for ridge boards, cross ties, purlins, bracing, headers for skylights, chimneys and other openings.
  • Description of sheathing (including nailing schedule), underlayment type, finished roofing and radiant barrier if required.
  • Chimney type and required clearances(must be 2' higher than any point 10' away), with spark arresters noted.
  • Flashings, drip edges, gutters, downspouts.
