California Energy Efficiency Standards
The Building Department will require filing of Compliance Forms CF-1R and MF-1R showing that the residence will meet California Energy Efficiency Standards. Other forms are usually required as well.
While this process can sometimes require an architect or engineer with computer programs, there are prescriptive component packages that can qualify depending on your climate zone. For example, Mendocino County,
except along the coast, is in climate zone 2. A low rise residence could use Alternate Component Package D.
